Mount Katahdin Sunrise from Abol Bridge

This shows Mount Katahdin shortly after sunrise during early June as seen from the Abol Bridge on the Golden Road in Northern Maine. The West Branch of the Penobscot River flows from the left under the bridge at the bottom. The inlet to the right is where Abol Stream, in Baxter State Park, enters the Penobscot. The canoes to the right are at Abol Bridge Campground. Mount Katahdin is the final destination for those who have hiked north on the Appalachian Trail beginning in the State of Georgia. The campground has a little store and dining section. This place is definitely "off the grid" as there are no power lines or cell service here. Generators and fireplaces rule!
