Autumn Landscape in all of its Glory at Wassookeag

There are numerous beautiful colors in this autumn image taken at Lake Wassookeag in the Maine Highlands that would have been lost by the wrong exposure setting. This is a good example of what is referred to as a low key image. This means that there is a fairly strong contrast between the well lit area and the rest of the image that is darker. In this case it is in shadow. The low angle of the sunlight coming from the right side increases the contrast. This scene is managed by exposing for the highlights which are on brighter leaves in the foreground and by not allowing the background get so dark where it eliminates the subtle variety of colors that are there. The location is the eastern side of Little Lake Wassookeag in Dexter, Maine.
